I ordered Lara Ferroni's new book Doughnuts: Simple and Delicious Recipes to Make at Home last week and within 24 hours of receiving the book I made my first batch of Donuts following the old-fashioned sour cream donut recipe on page 30. And they turned out GREAT. Very cake-y and very delicious. They are made of a cake (non-yeast based) dough using all-purpose flour, baking soda, sugar, sour cream and eggs. The frying-part gave me a bit of an headache as I have never friend anything before on my gas stove and was really scared of it. But using a large pot and our cooking thermometer (ok, and letting it do S ;-)) made it really easy. Much easier and less scarier than I thought. And the result was definitely worth it! Crispy cake dounuts that tasted SOOOOO good! So good and so easy to make that I plan to make donuts again this weekend. This time I want to try this yeast-based recipe from Lara Ferroni. I'll keep you updated...
Do you have a favorite donut recipe? Have you ever made donuts yourself?
Sour cream donuts are my favorite. You were quite busy making them, lots of work envolved. Have a great weekend!
